2011 Christmas Party

Held on 3rd December 2011 with the theme ‘Christmastide‘.

2011 AGM

Held successfully on Thursday 17th November at 11.30am.

Patron: His Excellency Adam Wood, recently appointed as Lt. Governor was proposed by the Committee, as requiredby our constitution, and it was unanimously agreed that he should be invited to fill the vacancy.

The following were re-elected without dissention Chairman: Peter Hepworth Hon Treasurer: Margaret O. Radcliffe Hon Secretary: Jacqueline Kelly Committee Members: Anthea Radcliffe, Ron Monroe, Belinda Coole, Liz Brand & Peter Oates

Membership Secretary: Celia M. Marshall had been formally proposed by Peter Hepworth and seconded by Peter Oates and was unanimously elected.

2010 Christmas Party

Held on 4th December 2010 with the theme ‘Ireland‘.

2010 AGM

Held on Thursday 11th November at 11.30am.

The Annual General Meeting was successfully completed on 11th November with an attendance of 32, with Margaret Oates, President, presiding.

As Des Brookes, Chairman had indicated that he wished to stand down due to pressure at work, and Phil Gale as Treasurer due to his worsening disability, the following changes were agreed unanimously:-

Mr Peter Hepworth as Chairman, In succession to Mr Des Brookes who has also left the Committee. Mr Peter Oates as Honorary Treasurer in succession to Mr Phil Gale, who has also left the committee. Since the two new officers are already on the committee there are were two vacancies that the committee sought to fill by co-opting.

2010 Silent Auction

On Thursday 16th September, the Society held a ‘Silent Auction’ of art materials and books. This was an opportunity for members to re-cycle items they no longer use or require and for others to obtain them at a reasonable price.

Supper was provided for a small charge and the entire proceeds (almost £300) was donated to the Hyperbaric Chamber.

2010 Painting Week

The painting week was not held this year.

2009 Christmas Party

Held on 5th December 2009 with the theme ‘Bavarian Oompah!‘.

2009 AGM

The Annual General Meeting was successfully completed on 12th November with a good membership attendance and with Margaret Oates, President, presiding.

There were no changes to the Committee membership this year.

2009 John Martin Presentation

DR KEITH ARMSTRONG is a poet from Newcastle who has devised a one man touring show on the life of the artist John Martin who was born near Newcastle and died on the Isle of Man. Dr Armstrong visited the Isle of Man in September and gave a presentation to the Isle of Man Art Society on Thursday 17th September @ 7pm - 9pm.

2009 Painting Week

Held by Tony Beresford. Those of you with internet access can view his website at www.dragonsbackstudio.co.uk for further details.

Tony travelled to the Island for the week commencing Monday 27th July. The week included three tuition days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 4pm.

Tony also gave a demonstration at Thie Ellyn of Tuesday evening 28th July at 7pm.

2009 Board Painting Party

In preparation for the 2009 Easter exhibition we held a ‘Painting Party’ on Sunday 22nd March to tidy up and paint the exhibit peg boards. Everyone was encouraged to come along at 9.30am to lend a hand! Tea and biscuits were provided.

2008 Christmas Party

Held on 6th December 2008 with the theme ‘America‘.

2008 AGM

Held on Thursday 6th November at 11.30am.

The Annual General Meeting was successfully completed on 6th November with an attendance of 46, with Laurence Kermode, President, presiding. As Laurence had indicated that he wished to stand down, the following changes were confirmed:-

Mrs Margaret Oates, Previously Vice President, as President. Mr David Byrne as Vice President. Mr Des Brookes as Chairman, In succession to Mr Peter Oates who stood down. Peter remained as a Committee Member. Mr Stuart Houghton as Membership Secretary in succession to Mrs Christine Pollard who stood down. Mr Peter Hepworth as a Committee Member in succession to Mr Alan Croll who stood down.

2008 Painting Week

Held by David Coupe from Derbyshire. David is a very experienced tutor of painters with all levels of ability. David has been painting in watercolour for around twenty years and is hooked on this unpredictable but wonderful medium. David started his company, Coupe Watercolours, in 2003 and now provides lessons, workshops painting holidays and life classes along with art sales. His classes put the emphasis on personal instruction and mastering the basics of painting in watercolour. Those of you with internet access can view his website at www.coupe.uk.net.

The painting week commenced on Monday 21st July and included four tuition days on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. David also gave a demonstration at Thie Ellyn on Tuesday evening 22nd July at 7pm.

David proved to be an excellent teacher and was very happy to share his extensive knowledge with everyone who attended his workshops. He had a lot of advice particularly on drawing and found time for individual support. The Tuesday evening demonstration was well received by the 47 members and non-members who attended. An excellent supper was supplied by some of our regular members.

2008 Tree Planting

In 2007 Sheila Scott announced the intention for the Society to plant a tree to acknowledge the efforts of Peter and Margaret in the organisation of the Society.

On March 18th 2008, a small party attended the planting of a black mulberry tree at a new wildlife area near Rushen Parish Church. The land has been donated by Margaret’s brother, being part of Ballachurry Farm, where Margaret was born and lived until her marriage, almost 50 years ago.
