I am pleased to announce that THE GREEN SHAWL, a drawing by Svetlana Cameron, a member of The Isle of Man Art Society, has passed two stages of selection and has been accepted to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition.
This is the country's leading portrait exhibition that collects together some of the best of painted and drawn portraiture selected from both national and international submissions.

Isle of Man Art Society member Karl Garrett is opening an art Gallery in Braddan with 2000 sq ft of space.
Unit 11 Kirby Farm Industrial Estate Vicarage Road Braddan (opposite Kirby Garden Centre)
The official opening is at 10am on Saturday 9th April 2011 with Hon David Cretney MHK performing the official opening ceremony at noon.

On Tuesday 8th March our Chairman, Peter Hepworth, presented a cheque for £350 to the Isle of Man Alzheimers Society. This amount represented the profits on our 2010 Autumn Exhibition. Margaret Plimblett represented the Alzheimers Society and David Mylchreest MD of Mylchreest Motors was also present since it was in their showroom that the exhibition took place.

The Creative Shop at 79 Strand Street is offering members 25% off Winsor & Newton Artists' quality paints (selected old style packaging), 'Finity' acrylics, selected 'Artisan' water-mixable oils and some Artists' water colours (5ml tubes and half pans).
There is also a loyalty scheme in place: Every time you spend £10 or more in a single transaction you will receive a stamp in your collection card. This year our Easter exhibition will once again be held in the Villa Marina Arcade.
Handing in Day will be on Saturday 16th April between 10am and 4pm. We will require plenty of volunteers to help with the exhibition set up and exhibit hanging so please ask your friends and relatives if they would be willing to help. We would also appreciate some ‘younger’ volunteers to assist with transporting and setting up the picture boards if possible.
The Exhibition will run from Thursday 21st to Thursday 28th April this year as the Royal Wedding is to be held on Friday ...

The committee have decided to set up a ‘charity donation’ table in Thie Ellyn.
Members are invited to bring in any unwanted art materials that can be ‘sold’ to other members for a charitable donation.
Please only bring in art materials that you think others would like as we will be removing and disposing of any items that remain unsold after 6 weeks.

Betty had been an enthusiastic member of the Society for over 40 years when she died on 5th June.
Her delicate watercolours of local scenes and flowers were much admired and sort after, and she was a consistent exhibitor at our annual exhibitions.
Although she had known that she had only a short time to live, she continued almost to the very end to attend workshops at Thie Ellyn on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and even after she was admitted to Hospice she continued to paint. She will be sadly missed by her friends in the Society, many of whom attended ...

Painting Party
In preparation for the exhibition we will be holding a ‘Painting Party’ on Sunday 22nd March to tidy up and paint the exhibit peg boards. Everyone is encouraged to come along at 9.30am to lend a hand! Please remember to bring your own paint brushes or rollers and we will provide the tea and biscuits.

Last year Sheila announced the intention for the Society to plant a tree to acknowledge the efforts of Peter and Margaret in the organisation of the Society.
On March 18th, a small party attended the planting of a black mulberry tree at a new wildlife area near Rushen Parish Church. The land has been donated by Margaret’s brother, being part of Ballachurry Farm, where Margaret was born and lived until her marriage, almost 50 years ago.

Tribute was made to Sheila Scott who retired as Society Secretary after 4 years in that position. We welcomed Jackie Kelly as our new Secretary, although work commitments had prevented her from attending the A.G.M. Jackie's place on the Committee has gone to Desmond Brooks who was the only nomination.
The nomination from the Committee in respect of the vacant position as President was unanimously approved with the elevation of E. Laurence Kermode, formally Vice-President. The vacancy as Vice-President was then filled with the unanimous election of Mrs Margaret Oates to that position.
